Negative lonizer Vs OzoneGenerator: Which Is to Choose?

What is a negative ion?

Negative ions are ions with one or more negative charges. Atoms or groups of atoms lose or gain electrons after forming charged particles called ions; negative ions are also called "anions". Certain molecules can also form ions under particular circumstances, such as when the ionic state of oxygen is generally anions, also called negative oxygen ions.

You can often feel negative ions in nature. The three main mechanisms are forest trees, leafy branch tip discharge, and green plant photosynthetic reactions formed by the photoelectric effect, so the air is ionized and generates negative ions. The atmosphere is affected by ultraviolet rays, cosmic rays, radioactive substances, thunderstorms, storms, and other factors that cause ionization and produce negative ions. Waterfall impact, fine wave pushing roll, rainstorm fall, and other natural processes such as water in the role of gravity, high-speed flow, water molecular cleavage, and producing negative ions.

Working Principle of Ion

The ions work by attaching heavily to positively charged particles and making these particles so negatively charged that bacteria, microbes, and pollen spores become too heavy to travel through the air and, therefore, cannot enter your breathing passages. This action prevents you from becoming ill. In other words, the negative ion generator creates a protective circle around you.

Effects of negative ions

Negative ions give you cleaner, healthier air and protect you from allergens and viruses. The constant flow of negative ions will help keep away dust mites, viruses and other pollutants that can make you sick.

M. Deleanu's research has shown that negative ions can also reduce depressive symptoms in people, positively affect the body system and cognitive performance, and promote antibacterial activity. This is evident in people who went on forest and beach vacations; they feel significantly more relaxed and less stressed. Some people report healthier sleep and mood after purchasing negative ion generators.

Negative ions are effective in removing tiny particles such as pollen, mold spores, and dust from the air, but they are not as effective as ozone in eliminating odors. Although ozone has been used in production and sustaining life for a long time, many people are still not clear about how ozone is generated. The following is an introduction to the principles of ozone generation.

What is Ozone?

Ozone, or O3, is a colorless, distinctive gas with a peculiar odor at room temperature. Ozone is mainly generated from nitrogen oxides (NOx) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) through a complex series of nonlinear photochemical reactions.

Some of the oxygen atoms in ozone are consumed by oxidation, and the remaining oxygen atoms combine to form oxygen and enter a stable state—that is, at room temperature, it can be self-reduced to oxygen. So ozone causes no secondary pollution, which is the most significant advantage of applying ozone technology.

Compared with oxygen, the proportion of ozone is larger, more easily soluble in water, and more easily decomposed. At room temperature and pressure, ozone is a gas that decomposes slowly. Still, decomposition into oxygen is accelerated when it is above 164 °C, when a catalyst is present, or when ozone is irradiated with ultraviolet light at a wavelength of about 25 nm.

The working principle of ozone

The principle of ozone deodorization is the same as that of ozone sterilization: both are due to the strong oxidation of ozone, which destroys the molecular structure of odor-producing substances to produce non-toxic, odorless substances.

Because the stage oxygen (primary oxygen) produced during ozone decomposition has strong oxidizing properties, the odor and toxic gases in organic pollutants in the decomposition process can be decomposed quickly to produce air and become stable and odorless.

Effects of Negative Ions

Ozone has been widely used in various fields, especially in preventing the spoilage of food, drugs, cosmetics, and other health products. Ozone has a crucial role; it can significantly extend the shelf life of food, mainly because of its sterilization and disinfection effects.

Ozone is a highly reactive gas that can eliminate indoor and outdoor odors, decompose harmful substances, treat sewage, and bleach. However, the amount of ozone needed to kill bacteria and viruses is greater than the average tolerance level of the human body. While working, doors and windows should be closed, and pets, kids, and adults should leave the room.

Types of ozone generators

Some deodorization uses deodorant solutions, but they are consumable, costly, and take a long time to react. Therefore, ozone deodorization has the advantages of being more efficient, more complete, and less expensive than other deodorization methods.

Ozone is extremely unstable and decomposes quickly after production, so it can only be produced and used now. Ozone generators play this role.

According to how ozone is produced, there are three main types of ozone generators:

1. Corona discharge ozone generator

It imitates the natural method of lightning to produce ozone. Through the artificial alternating high-voltage electric field in the gas to produce a corona, the free high-energy ions in the corona dissociate O2 molecules by collision and aggregation for O3 molecules.

This kind of ozone generator has the advantages of mature technology, stable operation, a long service life, and a large ozone yield.

2. Electrolytic ozone generator

Using the electrochemical oxidation of water to generate ozone, water containing a hydrated fluorescent anion electrolyte can be oxidized to ozone with high current power at approximately room temperature.

3. UV-type ozone generator

This generator uses a specific wavelength (185 nm) of ultraviolet radiation to excite oxygen molecules, which then decompose the oxygen molecules and generate ozone.

Baseaire Ozone Generator

Among the different ozone generator types, the corona discharge ozone generator is the most widely used in the relevant industry today. Baseaire ozone generators are also generated by corona discharge, with more than ten years of experience in research, development, and production.

A total of three models have been developed, and they feature a maximum ozone output of 15,000 mg per hour, disinfection without dead ends, and high sterilization efficiency. In a relatively confined environment, the diffusion and permeability are uniform.

Because of its broad sterilization spectrum, it can kill bacterial propagules, spores, viruses, fungi, protozoan spores, and other microorganisms. Also, it can destroy botulism, toxins, rickettsia, etc.

This ozone generator also has a strong ability to remove mold, fishy, and other smelly odors. Their common feature is that they can all work in the 14–95 degree Fahrenheit range and be timed for two hours. Here are the differences between their three models:

Negative ions make microbes, bacteria, and pollen spores too heavy to pass through breathing passages, resulting in cleaner and healthier air. The ozone destroys the molecular composition of certain substances, decomposing them into non-toxic, odorless gases.

Both the negative ionizer and the ozone generator are efficient in serving their respective production purposes, so the one you settle on depends on your purification or deodorization needs, which this article has covered to a large extent. And if you're still unclear, reach out to Baseaire, and our skilled staff will gladly assist you.
